Summary: These records primarily document the last decade of the SVM's autonomous existence, 1949-1959, complementing the records found in Record Group No. 42. The Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions was an organization that sought to recruit college and university students in the United States for missionary service. In 1959, the Student Volunteer Movement, the United Student Christian Council, and the Interseminary Committee merged to form the National Student Christian Federation.

Historical Sketch

The Student Volunteer Movement was established in 1886. It became the Commission on World Mission

of the merger-produced National Student Christian Federation of North America in 1959. See the finding aid for the Archives of the Student Volunteer Movement (Record Group No. 42) for more background information.
